Tonge Row Project Completed with HEC Revitalization Grant Funding

Patapsco Heritage Greenway was the recipient of a grant made possible from proceeds from our 2018 Show House for repairs and restoration of the stone facade of their properties on Tonge Row in Old Ellicott City. HEC partnered with Preservation Maryland to create and fund the Historic Ellicott City Revitalization Grant Program through which funds were made available to provide direct assistance for the rehabilitation and preservation and promotion of cultural resources within the Ellicott City National Register Historic District and the surrounding area in Howard County.

Along the distinct streetscape of Tonge Row on Old Columbia Pike are the offices of Patapsco Heritage Greenway–one of Maryland’s 13 certified State Heritage Areas that provides essential funding and support to Maryland’s heritage and cultural tourism economy. Using historic images as a guide and following the regulations and guidelines set forth by the Howard County Historic Preservation Commission, the project focused on: restoring the building’s wood window frames and sash and returning their functionality, adjusting and improving water drainage from the building’s facade and foundation, and removing non-historic and inappropriate doors and shutters.
